We were delighted to welcome Zöe Franklin, MP for Guildford, to speak to our First Year Specialist (Year 12) pupils and some parents as part of our Charterhouse in Conversation series, sharing fascinating insights into her journey to becoming an MP and what influenced her political views as a Liberal Democrat.
She delivered some compelling messages about the value and nature of democracy, and of the important role that young people have in shaping the future through their engagement with politics.
I’m so glad Zöe Franklin came to School the other day. She strengthened my understanding of the Liberal Democrats’ objectives as a party and gave an overview of her work schedule as an MP. This increased my interest in UK politics and the workings of Parliament even further.

Her insights into certain aspects of the complex global political landscape were deeply thought-provoking and led to a broad and interesting range of questions from pupils in the audience.
The evening was fascinating and very enjoyable. Perhaps because she isn’t actually in government, she answered all questions honestly and in a way that made sense. She gave thoughtful, thought-provoking answers and was a very pleasant lady overall.
