Further Mathematics

“Without mathematics, there’s nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers.”

Shakuntala Devi, Indian mathematician and Guinness World Record Holder who was popularly known as the ‘Human Computer’.

Details of the course and the importance of Mathematics

We recognise that many students will be resitting their A Levels and it is often preferable to be able to resit the specification the student studied first time.

At Charterhouse Online, we offer a flexible and accommodating programme of study for the specific subjects, providing lessons covering the key concepts in Further Mathematics, but, in addition, providing exam board-specific support to ensure exam readiness.

In the situation where a student will be sitting the A Level exams for the first time, we would teach the exam board which Charterhouse School uses. For Further Mathematics, this is Edexcel.

Mathematics is not merely about numbers: it is about learning to think for oneself. It is also about the application of creativity and imagination to solve problems and the development of the skills of logic, analysis and accuracy.

Taking Further Mathematics will certainly be an excellent preparation for studying maths at university but it also provides a broader knowledge and understanding of applied mathematical principles such as statistics or mechanics. This can lead onto other areas of study such engineering or perhaps, finance.
